What are cosmetic fillers?
Cosmetic fillers are a great way to restore volume and fullness in the face, and to address wrinkles around the mouth (nasolabial folds and marionette lines). As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. As a result, facial muscles must work closer to the skin’s surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more apparent. Thankfully, cosmetic fillers like Juvéderm, Belotero, and Radiesse can help.
Our cosmetic fillers contain Lidocaine anesthetic mixed with the product to give you the most comfortable experience during your treatment.
What is the Juvéderm line of fillers?
The Juvéderm line of fillers are FDA-approved to help restore facial and lip volume, and to smooth wrinkles. The injection process is quick and sees immediate results that can last up to 2 years. With the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid (HA) on the market currently, Juvéderm’s smooth gel formulations flow easily under the skin and can reduce the appearance of facial folds and wrinkles by restoring lost volume in facial tissue.
There are several Juvéderm products on the market, each designed to treat moderate to severe wrinkles that vary in depth:
- Juvéderm Volbella XC is a unique filler because of its’ VYCROSS™ technology, an innovative combination of low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural, hydrating substance found in your skin. Volbella is our lightest HA filler and is therefore used on superficial lines, such as those around the lips (otherwise known as “lipstick lines.” Because Volbella is a thinner consistency compared to our other fillers, it does not add volume or plumpness and is used to specifically target and fill fine lines. Effects last up to 9 months.
- Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC is a highly concentrated hyaluronic acid filler that can be used for moderate volume loss. It swells slightly after injection and is our most widely used filler for facial areas such as the lips (to add subtle volume), nasolabial lines, marionette lines, and other wrinkles or folds on the lower face. Effects last up to 1 year.
- Juvéderm Vollure XC smooths moderate to severe parentheses wrinkles around your nose and mouth. Its effectiveness has been proven time and time again, delivering real results that last up to 18 months.
- Juvéderm Voluma XC adds volume to correct age-related volume loss in the cheeks and under-eye area to help fill areas of lost fat and collagen, creating a more youthful appearance. This is our thickest filler with results lasting up to 2 years.
What is Revanesse Versa Filler?
Revanesse® is a line of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers made with state-of-the-art production methods, optimal ingredients, and rigorous quality testing to provide remarkable results. Revanesse® fillers add volume for a smoother, more youthful appearance while shaping and sculpting your features to your ideal of beauty. Revanesse® dermal fillers are designed for minimal pain, swelling, and downtime. The natural look and feel of our results have made Revanesse® the name on everyone’s lips.
What is Belotero?
Belotero Balance is a soft cohesive injectable gel that seamlessly blends in with your existing skin structure. Integrating quickly into your skin, Belotero Balance can fill under eye hollowness and go near the tear troughs achieving a more rested look and helping alleviate dark circles and hollows around the eyes.
The main ingredient, hyaluronic acid (HA), is a naturally occurring substance in your skin so this dermal filler binds well and offers a durable, yet soft texture. By binding to the tissue in your epidermis, Belotero is an optimal injectable for areas of the face where volume has been lost.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse also restores fullness, helping you to achieve a more youthful appearance. This FDA-approved filler is used primarily to treat areas with obvious signs of facial aging. The unique gel formula contains microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a naturally occurring component found in your body. The microspheres immediately add volume to your skin, smoothing wrinkles while they continue to stimulate your body’s own collagen production. This helps to revive and refresh your features in a natural way.
How do I decide which filler is right for me?
There are many different types of dermal fillers on the market, but not to worry, our highly trained providers will help you choose which product is right for you. Dermal fillers can be used to plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases and wrinkles, and even improve the appearance of recessed scars. If any of these concerns pertain to you, dermal fillers may be the perfect treatment!
During your one-on-one complimentary consultation, we will determine what target areas to treat, learn about your medical history by asking important questions, and then develop a treatment plan with product recommendations that are personalized to your unique needs.
When should I expect to see results?
For many individuals, most fillers can last for up to 12 months, with specific products delivering real results for up to 24 months. However, each patient is unique, and results may vary.
Cosmetic fillers are suitable for all skin colors and skin types. Since the most prevalent ingredients are components that are naturally found within your body, fillers are a safe and effective product when administered by a qualified physician.
Are there any side effects?
Fillers can cause temporary side effects. The most common side effects are swelling at the treatment site and bruising. We suggest that patients stop taking anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning medications at least 72 hours prior to getting fillers to help prevent bruising.
With lip fillers, there is a chance of developing one or more mucocysts where the filler is injected that can feel or appear like a small nodule or lump. These are harmless and usually go completely unnoticed on the outside but we can also inject a dissolving enzyme to resolve the issue if needed.
In less common cases, patients can develop a histamine response to the presence of fillers under the skin. This can cause longer-term swelling and puffiness at the treatment site that can last for the entire life of the filler but this is extremely rare.
In rare cases, patients can experience a Tyndall effect from filler application which appears as a greenish or bluish tinge to the skin where the filler was injected. This can take up to the life of the filler to dissipate.
Any of the above side effects are unpredictable prior to treatment and can happen on an individual case by case basis, therefore we like all of our patients to be informed of potential adverse reactions prior to treatment. In the event that side effects do occur, we will take all necessary steps to resolve the issue as best as possible, including dissolution of filler.
